designated driver

This past week, I went to the doctor again (a foot doctor this time) and he told me that my foot was indeed broken. He also told me that if my break moves at all (not quite sure what that means) that I'll need surgery. So basically . . . my summer is looking really good right about now. I have another appointment in three weeks and, until then, I need to stay on my crutches.

i HATE crutches...

My doctor told me that if I wanted to, I could get the roll-a-bout. They have them at some medical stores and he would write me a prescription for it. So my mom and I went to the store and I tested out my little knee scooter. I got to keep it for one night to decide if it was something I really wanted to pay for. I kind of thought that I would look and feel stupid rolling around campus on one of these. And I didn't know how much I would use it so I decided to save the money and just make due with crutches. I'm really regretting my decision right now.

Dr. Rogers (good guy) signed some papers that allowed me to go get a handicap parking pass!! Don't worry, I'm finding the silver lining in all of this. I went over to the DMV and got two temporary parking passes. They expire at the end of October. I'm pretty sure I won't be on crutches until then so I have become the designated driver!

But of course, I will be honest and won't use my parking pass unless I really do need it. :)

I went to the BYU parking office to see how close I could park to my classes. The nice ladies in the parking office told me that I was in the wrong spot and first I needed to go to the accessibility lab in the wilk. Once I had my paper signed, I could come back and they would give me the parking permit. The paper that I had said that it was room 1527. I crutched all the way down the stairs (I couldn't find the elevator) and found room 1527. The nice lady in that room told me that the office had actually moved. Upstairs. Behind the cougar eat. So I crutched all the way back upstairs (found the elevator this time) and made my way to the accessibility lab. Once they signed my form, I headed out once again to go back to the parking office. They gave me a permit and told me I could park in three lots - none of them get me very close to my classes. They told me I could park anywhere in any of the three lots but I couldn't park in any of the handicap spots . . . weird.
Kate and I are happy to say that I officially have elephantiasis. I can't see my ankle bone. And my toes look like sausages. Oh - and my green bruise is really cute too.

feeling crafty

Since I didn't get to go to California this past week, I found myself with a lot of free time. My parents got me a sewing machine for my birthday and I decided that I wanted to make something with it.
I have a sweater that I wanted to add more buttons to, so my mom and I went to a fabric store looking for some cute buttons. When we were there, I saw a pattern to make the most adorable bag ever.
My mom, humoring me, let me buy the pattern and then helped me pick out the fabric that I wanted to use. I saw this adorable brown fabric with lots of colored circles all around it and knew that I wanted that to be the main material that I used. So then, all I had to do was pick out other fabrics that matched well with the brown one.
It wasn't actually as hard as I thought it was going to be. And I also think that my mom was suprised with how well I did. I'm used to only sewing simple pillow cases and easy quilts. This was a new experience for me, and I really learned a lot! And I had fun, which is definitely bonus as well. I think the bag it absolutely adorable (and yes, I realize that I've used that word a lot this post) and I just love all the bright colors!
It was a nice project to be able to do while I have a week of free time while I'm waiting for the new semester to start. And, I think I'm going to start a business :)

fracture: a break, breach, or split

During one of our park outings this past weekend, we decided to go to this park over by the Covey Arts Center. We started off taking lots of pictures on the playground

- - gotta love self timers! - -

Then, we wanted to take some pictures of all of us sticking our heads out from behind trees. On this one tree, there were these wart-like things, or knobs, that you could climb up and hold on to. So Kate and I climbed up and Becca was getting ready to push the timer button when all of a sudden, I started slipping. I was trying to jump backwards off the tree so I could land on the ground, and some of my roommates were trying to hold me up so I wouldn't fall. Then, as I slid down, my foot slid down and hit all the knobs sticking out of the tree, and then landed kind of sideways on the stump. I thought that it was only going to bruise. I couldn't stand up right away, it hurt so bad. When I realized that I couldn't walk at all, the Heidi's carried me to the car.
When we got home a few minutes later, Becca wouldn't let me take my shoe off but we put ice on it to try to keep the swelling down.

I really thought that it was only going to bruise. But as the night went on, and I realized that I couldn't walk on it without it hurting really bad, I knew that I was going to need crutches the next day. I asked some friends if they could run them by (poor guys - it was about 1:30 or 2 in the morning). The swelling was about the size of a tennis ball. And it was starting to bruise. I was really worried because Kate and I were supposed to go to California on Tuesday afternoon and I wanted to be able to walk on it so we could go to the redwoods, the beach, and San Francisco.
I didn't end up going to bed until like 3:30 or so. Becca and Heidi thought that I needed to go to the hospital or something so Becca and I decided that she was going to take me to the BYU Health Center the next morning at 8 so that I would be sure to get in early enough to not have to wait around a whole lot.

This picture isn't the best, but you can kind of see how big the swelling was on my left foot. Right now, the bruise spreads from above my ankle bone all the way to my toes. And instead of the swelling just being in one place, my whole foot is swollen.

Anyways - here's what happened at the doctor. We walked in and the lady at the front desk gave me a wheelchair (thank goodness!) and she wheeled me back to the urgent care unit. I got in right away and the doctor came in and said that he hoped he could remember how to be a doctor because it had been a while. That wasn't really what I wanted to hear right before I was getting my foot looked at. I thought/hoped he was joking, but I wasn't exactly 100% sure.

He started asking me how this whole thing happened. And let me tell you, it's pretty embarrassing when you have to tell people over and over that you fell out of a tree. Seriously, who does that?! It happens to 4-year olds (as Brooke so graciously reminded me) but it doesn't happen to 20 year olds. Haha. After he finished asking all the questions and filled out all the paper work, he started feeling all around my foot to see where it hurt. When he got to one part and I flinched, he stopped and said, "Yep, that's what I was worried about."

Great, I thought... just what I want to hear right now.

So he sent me in to get some X-rays done and when he got around to looking at them, he said that I had a fracture. He told me that the bone right now was sitting just right, just like it should. But if I walk on it too much, or put too much pressure on it, it could snap really easily. So he gave me one of the big boot casts, you know, those giant black ones that make it so you can't move any part of your leg. I still can't walk on it. They told me to use crutches as long as I couldn't put any pressure on it. As the days go on, if I can put pressure on it, I should to try to get off the crutches but if it hurts, then I shouldn't try too hard. It still hurts really bad and I can't walk on it. Going up and down the stairs is really entertaining. I've fallen twice and the people I was with just laughed at me (haha - thanks guys for the sympathy...)Even without crutches and a giant boot, I am not a graceful person. Take away one of my legs, and everyone around me is in for a treat.

I am getting quite good at the balancing act on the crutches

Oh - and I had to stay home from California because the doctor told me I should take it easy and try to be up on it as little as possible. So the best part about this is that I'm stuck in Provo for the week while everyone else is either home for the summer, or on vacation until the next term starts. I can't escape Provo!!

weekend of parks

This past weekend, my roommates and I went to parks to take lots of pictures. The semester was ending, so we wanted lots of pictures to remember each other with. Plus, a photo shoot is always fun :)

Here are some of the pictures:

Turning 20

On Tuesday, I finally turned 20!!!
Yes!
Say goodbye to the teenage years!
On Tuesday morning, I had to work and I didn't think that I would be doing anything else until later that night when my roommates and I were planning on going out. But Alicia called me on Monday night and asked if she and Clark could take me out to lunch. They picked me up from work and we went to Yozone!! Neither of them had ever been before so I told them that they really needed to try it.

After Yozone, Clark, Alicia, and I went to our parent's condo so that we could find the gift that my parents had left hidden somewhere when they went home a few weeks ago. So my mom told me where it was hidden and we all went to find it. Suprise suprise!! A sewing machine!! Haha - now I just have to figure out what I want to sew. . . not sure what I want to sew yet, but I'll figure it out. And my mom thinks I need to take lessons. Ha! I'll be fine. . . :)

Me and Alicia!! 14 days til she's officially my sister :)

After the adventure at my condo, I headed over to the best friend house. Kylee knows me all too well. . . 6 bottles of chocolate milk!!! Best present ever. (and spending time with Kylee was a gift for me as well)

That night, my roommates and I went to Spark. It's a non-alcoholic bar and restaurant in Provo. We definitely had a blast! The drinks were all really delicious. Luckily, we had the loft all to ourselves so we got a little crazy. We might have had our drinks spiked.

Anyways, here are all of our "model" pictures:

Unfortunately, we didn't get a picture of all of us. But here are the ones we did get :)

Me and Heidi J.

Becca, Acacia, Kate, and Heidi I.
I seriously have the best family and friends in the world. I didn't feel like I deserved any of the stuff that people were doing for me. I got so many gifts and letters and time with some of the people I love the most.
And boy, it feels good to be 20!!

Last night, I had some left over ribbon and was feeling a little creative. I thought, "hey, I could probably do something fun with this." So I went out and bought some cheap headbands, tied some bows, and hot glued them to the headbands.

I'm kind of proud of myself. Haha - not like it's super hard to tie a bow and get the glue gun, but usually I don't have any ideas like this. I think they turned out pretty cute!

Recent Events

Sometimes Kate and I get a little crazy.
So we have nothing better to do than act like birds and make the sounds to go along with it.

Each night before bed, Kate and I dance together to progress our relationship. So far, things are going good between us. We're thinking of moving our relationship to the next level but still trying to take it slow. Haha - ok but seriously. Sometimes Kate and I really are bizzare and we like to turn on the music, turn on the video camera and dance around to music. We have made some pretty classic videos. Here's a short photo shoot of our most recent music video adventure. When we decided to dance to spice girls, we thought it would add to the mood if we dressed up, as well. . . and this is the outcome.

Be jealous.
